Campaign objective

Mariano Events partnered with USA Pears to introduce shoppers to Green Anjou and Bosc pears through an in-store sampling campaign at Rouses Markets and Schnucks locations.

The campaign focused on giving shoppers the opportunity to experience both varieties firsthand. Through tastings and personal conversations, brand ambassadors highlighted the pears’ flavor, quality, and versatility while encouraging shoppers to consider them for purchase.

The activation also provided an opportunity to understand shopper preferences, including which variety performed better in units sold and which product attributes influenced purchasing decisions.

Execution summary

Mariano Events executed 42 in-store demos and distributed more than 2,100 samples. Brand ambassadors presented both Green Anjou and Bosc pears, educated shoppers about the varieties, and encouraged customers to discover their preferences through tasting.

The experience combined product education with an opportunity to sample the pears during a shopping trip. Shoppers could experience the products’ taste and quality while learning about their versatility.

This approach reflects Mariano Events’ product sampling campaigns, which connect brands with consumers through direct product experiences.

Execution summary

Green Anjou pears outperformed Bosc pears by 21% in units sold throughout the campaign. Schnucks, Missouri, was identified as the top market.

Shopper feedback highlighted taste as the strongest purchase driver at 38.2%, followed by flavor selection at 25.5%. These findings emphasized the role of the tasting experience in helping customers evaluate the products.

Additionally, 75.7% of sampled shoppers had previously purchased Green Anjou or Bosc pears. This showed that the campaign reached many shoppers who were already familiar with the varieties, creating an opportunity to reinforce that familiarity and encourage continued purchase consideration.
